Introduction

STJ Ultrahigh Resolution X-ray Spectrometer is designed with a Ta superconducting tunnel junctions (STJs) detector for fluorescence-detected X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). STJ detectors combine the high energy resolution of low temperature detectors with the high count rate capabilities of athermal devices and the high efficiencies of solid state detectors.

• High resolution: 5 – 10 eV FWHM for E ≤ 2 keV
  
• High count rate: >5000 counts/s per pixel, >106 counts/s total for 112-pixel array
  
• High efficiency: >80% for E ≤ 1.5 keV
